Superstition Mead Event at Mikkeller Brewing San Diego Tuesday August 16th
Mikkeller Brewing San Diego is continuing on the Mikkeller tradition of collaboration and love of craft. As brewers and imbibers of drink we constantly seek out the best from all fields of distilling, brewing, and drink making for inspiration. Our latest journey took us to Prescott, Arizona, the home of Superstition Meadery.
Superstition creates some of the most unique meads and ciders earning high marks including a full 100 points on ratebeer. Two weeks ago we received two barrels from Superstition Meadery to set off what will not only become a multi-faceted collaboration experiment, but a friendship between producers of uncompromising, crafted art.
These singular barrels once held a hulking Apricot & Peach Mead and a delicate Cider made with Colorado-grown Pie Cherries, each one being previously used for aging red wine. The first two beers to see rest in these uncommon barrels were the Berliner Weisse and Belgian-style Trippel, each targeting a complex product which will see draft near mid-October. As time follows, be sure sure to look for more projects to occur between Superstition and Mikkeller San Diego.
To kick off this partnership and friendship, Mikkeller SD will be hosting a guided pairing of beer and mead. We will be pairing some of our best beers with meads from the incomparable Superstition Meadery. This event will showcase a multi-dimensional experience encompassing the love of quality and passion for drink, but most purely a collaboration between friends.
The night will consist of a guided pairing flight with Jeff Herbert (Superstition Mead) & the Mikkeller SD crew, discussing all things mead and beer. Each guest will get to enjoy 4 pairings consisting of 3oz of mead and 3oz of beer.
Superstition Meads to be poured include, and may not be limited to:
Marion Mead (13.5%) - AZ Honey & 3 Berry. Semi-sweet, quite tart. A 2016 Mazer Cup Gold Medal Winner
Literary Nonsense (14%) - Cyser; Organic AZ Apple Cider & Blueberry
Aphrodisiac (13%) - Cabernet grapes & AZ Wildflower Honey, Aged in new American Oak. A Top 15 Mead in the World, with full 100 points on RateBeer.
Dancing Goat (15.5%) - Specialty mead; made with Tahitian Vanilla beans, Belgian dark candi sugar, and Mostra Coffee, Bourbon barrel aged.
Charcuterie will be available and you will be also taking home a 12oz stemmed Mikkeller Glass.
This intimate tasting is limited to 15 people per two sessions on Tuesday August 16th, 5p-6:30p and 7p-8:30p. This is a rare chance to sip through some amazing meads that are not regularly available in California.
