AmÂndio Beer

Mikkel's favorite beer, Orval, is tattooed on his upper arm. On his other arm is a portrait, carved in his flesh for life, of one of his favorite restaurateurs, Amândio of Caminha, Portugal.

A man behind a local gem of a restaurant in a small northern Portuguese fishing town, serving godly, fresh food from a simple and honest menu. The "little big man", with his grand personality, his grace (his mustache!) and his majestic taste in wine, instantly became a spiritual hero of ours when we met him during Artbeerfest Caminha two years ago. So much we have his picture gracing our kitchen here at Mikkeller HQ in Copenhagen.

As a token of our appreciation, we brewed an imperial Amândio stout at WarPigs, then aged it on port wine barrels to give it a traditional Portugues feeling. The result? 12% abv of heavenly goodnes. The vinious southern country character in this hard hitter makes it a great companion during both warm and cold evenings, and perfectly depicts the lively, playful spirit of our great friend, Amândio of Caminha.

The Amândio stout was released last week at Artbeerfest and from the looks of it, the beer was much to the liking of Amândio himself!

Get it at the Mikkeller December Garagesalg this Friday, and from Mikkeller Webshop
