Mikkeller launches its first organic beer
A refreshing berliner weisse with an intense taste of passion fruit. Mikkeller’s first organic beer will be released at Mikkeller’s Danish locations on november 17th.
Mikkeller has already had a lot of success with the brewery’s series of non ABV and gluten free beers, but the organic beer has been a long time in the making - mainly because the quality of organic hops available so far has been too low. Mikkel Borg Bjergsø explains:
“Lots of breweries brew organic beer, but I wanted to make sure, that once we brewed one, it had to be at least as good as any of our other beers,” he says.
The solution came with a light berliner weisse, which in contrast to hoppy beer types like pale ale and india pale ale does not get most of its taste from the hops, but is sour instead of bitter and gets part of it’s sweet sourness from high quality, peruvian organic passionfruit.
“It is insanely fresh and and has an extremely intense taste and smell of passion fruit,” says Bjergsø, who has the beer placed among his favorite new beers at the moment.
The passion fruit Berliner will be released exclusively at Mikkeller’s Danish locations on november 17th.
The brewery continues the development of more organic beers and have plans to release different types in bottles in 2018.
