Mikkeller opens bar in Paris
Press release March 26, 2019
Mikkeller is bringing world-renowned craft beer on tap to the very center of Paris with a new, uniquely designed location. Co-owners are the brothers Aaron and Bryce Dessner, musical masterminds of the American rock band The National.
Mikkel Borg Bjergsø is finally bringing his world-famous beer concept to Paris. Mikkeller already operates bars in 43 locations worldwide - from The Faroe Islands to Bucharest, Tokyo and New York City. Mikkeller has been on the lookout for a location in Paris for a long time, and finally found the right corner spot in the 9th Arrondissement.
“We are really excited to now finally be able to showcase our beer for a French audience and this is a perfect time, because the selection of craft beer in Paris is still limited, but we at the same time feel that Parisians are ready to try something new. The wine culture obviously has always been dominating in French gastronomy”, says Mikkel Borg Bjergsø, CEO and founder of Mikkeller.
Knowledgeable bartenders will be in charge of the 20 taps behind the specially-designed yellow brick counter. The bar will feature Mikkeller beer along with a line of other top craft breweries in the world. Simple dishes, sausages, crisps and other beer snacks will also be on the menu.

Danish design team
Parisians going to the Mikkeller bar will experience something much different from the traditional beer pub filled with leather sofas and sport on flat screen TVs. Mikkeller Bar Paris will be a fun mix of traditional Scandinavian craftsmanship and Parisian nightlife culture. It will come across as warm and friendly, presenting Danish furniture design in a spartan yet boldly decorated room. A prominent feature will be the yellow brick tiled floor, which Danes will recognize from traditional Danish church floors, as well as the floor of Denmark's internationally-renowned Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.
The design of the bar has been put in the hands of six young Danes whose backgrounds are rooted in both furniture design and architecture. Together, they call themselves Press Space To Fly (PSTF). They viewed the bar project as a perfect opportunity to
merge Scandinavian coolness with the famously lively atmosphere of a Parisian bar, thus creating a perfect framework for a space where people can meet, relax and enjoy.
Co-owned by famous music brothers
Mikkeller Bar Paris is co-owned by Mikkeller and Aaron and Bryce Dessner, known for the American rock band The National, as well as for being the creative forces behind a long list of musical projects and initiatives worldwide.

The brothers are longtime friends of Mikkeller and have – amongst other things – collaborated in the creation of the alternative music festival Haven in Copenhagen. Mikkel Borg Bjergsø has also created a beer for The National called Reality Based Pils.
Bryce Dessner lives in Paris with his French wife and their son, and was therefore an obvious choice to be a partner of the bar.
“We love Mikkel’s beers and we think that Mikkeller is one of the strongest and most interesting brands coming out of Scandinavia. I of course would like to share this with fellow Parisians, and on a more selfish note I’m very much looking forward to having a few beers at the bar myself”, says Bryce Dessner.
