Mikkeller opens its first bar in Switzerland
On November 22, 2024, we will open our first location in Switzerland with a new craft beer bar in Zurich. The bar will feature 20 taps offering a wide selection of quality beers and unusual beer experiments, including a variety of non-alcoholic options.
The idea of opening a Mikkeller bar in Switzerland came to fruition last year when Swiss beer blogger and Mikkeller enthusiast, Florian Habenicht, happened to meet Mikkel Bjergsø at a hotel bar in Turkmenistan. He had long been trying to pitch the idea of opening a Mikkeller bar in Switzerland and had reached out several times. Over a few beers (where the best ideas are born), Florian finally convinced Mikkel that it was a good idea.
“Switzerland is a country with a proud craft beer tradition. Zurich was the city that just happened to lack a good beer bar. So even though we will probably always be a passion-driven and impulsive business, the project also makes sense on paper.” says Mikkel Bjergsø, CEO of Mikkeller.
Florian Habenicht will manage our new Zurich bar. “Our goal is to create the most exciting beer bar in all of Switzerland,” says Florian. “Mikkeller is a creative and innovative brewery. They constantly push the boundaries of what beer can be, and they excel at creating special beer experiences – whether through unusual events or their famous Mikkeller Running Club, which we will also offer here,” he explains.
“Swiss craft breweries are often very small, making it difficult for them to showcase their creations in their own taprooms. Mikkeller Zurich fills this niche by offering a space to celebrate both Mikkeller’s beers and creations from local craft brewers.”, says Florian Habenicht.
The new bar will open on November 22, 2024. It will be our 39th location globally.
